Mid Century Rare Find - Luther Conover or Lawrence Peabody? Fiberglass Wing Chair
Mid Century fiberglass wing chair designed by Lawrence Peabody. The maker was Selig of Leominster, Massachusetts I believe the year to be 1955-56. There are nine holes drilled at the back of seat base.
Looks like they belong there, but I don't think they do. Just beginning minor restoration. Small damage to middle of upper back. Right now it is missing the feet. Shell finish will be restored, and based will be stripped to bare metal primed and painted appropriate finish. Holes will not be filled and small damage will not be touched. I will put several pictures up soon. Please base your decision on your own information and not mine. Some people think Luther Conover designed it, although he wasn't known to work with fiberglass. Mainly wood with skinny metal legs. After extensive research I am now totally confused. Conover or Peabody? I don't know. If you do please let me know. Antique Solid Bench. Beautiful piece. Not perfect. |
I'm not an expert. Although based on the construction and different use of woods. This chair is at least 150 years old. The seat is one piece of wood, not glued. Chair needs some fine tuning. I'd leave the finish as is. Charming piece. Nice patina. Not p |
